SUGAR LEAVES RELEASE SCINTILLATING DEBUT EP
'HOME SWEET HOLIDAY'
"Such a chiller slice of romance from sugar leaves with an emphasis on that mood and the groove and it's come up real nice."
Declan Byrne, triple j
"'Clear Blue Water' Hits in the right spots for this bowl of broth: drivin' goobin' psych-y bassline, spattering drums, tinny, mid-boosted vox work - yummo. "
Max Melit, The Stew
This extended play is a five track tasting plate of the band's most authentic sonic offerings. The breezy assertiveness of the vocals fall perfectly in between the groove of the shimmering jangling of the guitar and the tight shuffling of the kit. At times the insouciant instrumentals sway lazily like a backyard hammock, at others they thump, punch and crunch. Yet the constant is a suave precision in the songwriting that crystallizes after each listen drawing you from track to track.
Encouraging us to take the sojourn we deserve, Lead Cassius Surman shares: "This record is for anyone who feels like they might need a 20 minute break from reality, to relax and recuperate".
Meanjin/Brisbane's Sugar Leaves is fronted by Cassius alongside talented compatriots Liam Colquhoun (Drums/Bass/Trombone) and Lenny Sumich (Bass/Guitar/Percussion) who share the instrumental mantle.
The band are no stranger to recognition with their music video 'Dolce Vita' receiving a coveted premiere on ABC's iconic Rage program. Bound to catching producers' eyes with their charming aesthetic Sugar Leaves carefully cultivate visuals alongside the city's underground fashion and art communities.
With all the singles off the EP receiving exclusive premieres live on Brisbane's 4ZZZ radio the band have taken over their home town and are ready to break new ground. Sugar Leaves also landed a finalist spot on the Brisbane Lord Mayor's QUBE Effect 2022, the city council's most highly-regarded music initiative. Sitting in the sweet spot between adept studio work and engaging live performance the band have brought their set to support notable local tastemakers such as Peach Fur, and The Jensens. Sugar Leaves is: multi-instrumentalist live shows, in/exclusive fashion, cult skate videos, and heaps of homie love.
'Home Sweet Holiday' was Recorded + Mixed by Oscar Borschmann at The Loft and mastered by Rohan Kindt.
